Consultation of an oncologist
An oncologist at the Spizhenko Clinic examines any oncological problems of the patient. He collects all the necessary information and builds a strategy: which of the modern treatment methods can be applied in this case. After the consultation, the oncologist refers the patient to a specialist or for additional examinations at the Clinic.
What you need to have for a consultation with an oncologist:
- medical history or an extract from the medical history with a preliminary diagnosis, surgical operations or radiation therapy;
- results of previous examinations (X-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET, mammography, histological tests);
- information about concomitant diseases;
- a list of medications taken;
- it is advisable to come to the consultation with a family member or a close person who will help take notes and ask questions.
Write down your questions in advance, before the consultation. Since the consultation carries a powerful emotional charge for the patient and his relatives, the available list of questions will help to obtain all the desired information already at the first visit.
If additional questions arise after returning home, you should call your doctor. It is important to remember that knowledge helps overcome uncertainty, reduces anxiety and, therefore, enhances the effect of treatment.
What you need to know when coming to an oncologist consultation
We understand that your visit to the oncologist can be a worrying and even scary experience. You probably already know that you have a tumor and need to see a specialist who will explain what to do. You are worried about the treatment and side effects caused by the disease. You may even have all sorts of conflicting advice and opinions from family and friends. We will do everything to help you through this difficult time.
Perhaps your oncologist will be able to make some recommendations for further treatment already at the first consultation. Perhaps some additional tests and examinations will be needed. It is even possible that after additional examinations, the previously established diagnosis will not be confirmed.
And always remember the main thing: cancer is not a death sentence, it must and can be fought. And our doctors and specialists will do everything possible to help you.
The Spizhenko Clinic offers various types of oncologist consultations:
Initial consultation with an oncologist
In cases where the first visit to the Spizhenko Clinic is associated with symptoms of an oncological disease or an existing preliminary diagnosis made in another clinic or by a specialist (for example, a family doctor or ophthalmologist), the patient will be offered a consultation with an oncologist.
During the consultation, which is conducted by an experienced oncologist, a friendly dialogue takes place between the patient and the doctor of the Clinic, during which the patient talks about his health complaints and symptoms that forced him to seek medical help at the oncology center.
Following the oncologist’s consultation, the patient may require additional laboratory and diagnostic tests, such as CT and MRI diagnostics, PET, ultrasound, biopsy, etc., which will help to establish an accurate diagnosis in the shortest possible time and proceed to treatment planning.
Usually, after the oncologist’s consultation, the patient is assigned a consultation with a specialist of the Spizhenko Clinic of a narrower profile, depending on which organs and structures of the body the tumor is localized in. A specialist (urologist-oncologist, gynecologist-oncologist, neurosurgical oncologist) will be able to determine the characteristics of the disease in more detail in order to ultimately select a treatment strategy that will maximally contribute to the patient’s recovery.
Thus, no matter what combination of treatments are required (surgery, CyberKnife radiosurgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, etc.), the patient will receive them at the Spizhenko Clinic based on the needs of a specific case, and not on the capabilities of a particular oncology center.
The cost of an oncologist consultation is:
Primary — 1000 UAH.
Repeat — 1000 UAH.
Oncoscreening. Consultation with an oncologist as the first stage of oncologic screening
Prevention and early diagnosis of oncological diseases is one of the important components of the social work of the Spizhenko Clinic. Cancer statistics are growing worldwide and in order to reduce this trend, oncoscreening (onco check-up) has long been included in the program of mandatory preventive examinations in economically developed countries – an examination of the whole body, for the purpose of preventing and early diagnosis of cancer.
Oncological screening programs operating in the Spizhenko Clinic also provide for a consultation with an oncologist, during which, in addition to an individual program of mandatory studies, the patient will be given the necessary laboratory and diagnostic studies based on the existing symptoms, family history of oncological diseases and many other factors.
